Semester DOS, Honors History #2
World War One and World War 2 are often seen like part one and two of a big civil war in Europe. I agree with this idea—even though a civil war is within a single nation. The Great War impacted, not only the United States system of working but also the whole world. Most of our countries philosophy on war developed and cleared up during this time. After War World 2 ended the world was divided by the system of government, ideas of freedom, and power of wealth (Monroe Doctrine) eventually forming allies and enemies among our countries today.

I think it’s a essential for every country to go through a civil war it helps the countries get organize with what type of government systems they what to become. I think the main cause of both wars was because of the different governing system and land/property they wanted. Some countries still had monarchy, tsars others wanted communism capitalism fascism all being different forms of government. I think both of world wars help them clear up what they wanted to become. Today the world is divided into form of government countries are allies with other countries that share the same type of government and the most popular government system is Capitalist or communist. This is the reason why we are not friends with Cuba and North Korea because they are communist and we are capitals.

World war 2 help untied states clear up the reasons why we will go to war and they are based on are 4 freedoms. Franklin D. Roosevelt the current president at the time stated everywhere in the world" ought to enjoy: four essential human freedoms. Freedom of speech and expression. Freedom of religion freedom from want freedom of fear. We joined ww2 to because Germany was not following the 4 freedoms, which was most of them. Today we are currently in war with the Middle East for the same respond. These countries are not giving the people their 4 essential freedoms like religion speech and expresion and freedom from want. If a country does not follow these freedoms they immediately become our enemy’s. If a country was not following one of this rules if automatically because USA enemy. According to bush this its the reason why we are country in what with Iraq they where following the 4 essential human freedoms.

Once the Great War ended there was a winning side and losing side. The winner including United States and Great Britain became the most powerful countries into the world. the Monroe doctrine allowed United states to became in charge of the Americas and Great Britain in charge of Europe Africa and Asia. Latin America still to this day is depends on unites states. if their economy is bad it affects every in Latin America. This policy also stated that Europe could no longer colonize land or interfere with America—United States while view it as aggression to the US. The Doctrine also asserted that the United States couldn’t interfere with European colonies or africa the east. the United sates became to Latin America the older brother and the same thing happened to great Brittan in Europe.
WW2 letters

14 Jul 1942
My Dear Benjamin,

My love, I’m so glad to hear from you, and that you’re doing fine we all truly miss you a lot. As I read your letter I felt you where next to me—it made me remember all the good times we spend together. I pray to the lord every night that these days soon come to an end so we can all reunite. Anyhow, today was our John’s first day of school he was very sad that you were not there to walk him in, but he soon realized that he was not the only child in the same situation. The children are worried about a bomb attack. Schools are showing a short film that states that a bomb could happen at any time with no warnings and it teaches them what they need to do in the situation. William can wait to find a job, he wants to help me bring money into the house he has take the role very series of being the men of the house.

Anyhow, these times are making us women more independent and value men’s work. Life is comply different with what we are use to, most of now drive and know how to fix’s a car, including me. I’m still working in the airplane manufacturing plant; everything is going well so far. It was hard at first because I had no idea how to use the power tools but coworkers have taught me everything. You will be proud of me when you come back and see what I can do. The airplane plant I work for is only ran by women. We hope that the work we are doing will bring all the men back home earlier. There are propaganda posters everywhere in Washington encouraging women to work saying things like “the more women are work the sooner we will win” “we can do it”

I decided to get the night shift it fits more with my schedule so I would not interrupted my housewife shores. I often get home just as the children are getting ready to leave for school. Immediately I make break fast and send them off to school, William helps me by dropping of John first. Then I take our baby Julia to Mrs. Conwell’s house our older neighbor to babysit her meanwhile I sleep—Julia loves her. I’m very mad at the government for not helping us. He promised to help working mothers by offering childcare but till this day I haven’t gotten the help. Anyhow, once I come back home from Mrs. Conwell house I Clean the mess in the kitchen, and then go bed around 10 am. I wake up an hour before the alarm goes off at 2:00 pm so I can make food. Our backyard has become a small vegetable garden, because the grocery’s stores are lacking on food—they are sending it off seas for the war. After I’m done making dinner I go to Mrs. Conwell’s house to pick up Julia who cries because she doesn’t want to leave. Once the children are back home from school we all eat together. I do homework with them until there bedtime comes. I leave to work at 10:00 and I have Mrs. Conwell stay to make sure that they are fine
I hope when you get this letter you are in a good state and write back as soon as you can the children love when I read your letter to them, I take some parts out, so they would not worry. Well hope to here from you soon.

Yours truly forever,
Elizabeth Williams

* Technology (like nuclear energy)
* International organizations and agencies (like the UN)
The United Nations Organization (UNO) or simply United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and the achieving of world peace. The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions.
* Modern ideas of war & war crimes (hint: Nuremberg Trials)
* Postwar rebuilding (hint: Marshall Plan)
The Marshall Plan (from its enactment, officially the European Recovery Program, ERP) was the primary program, 1947–51, of the United States for rebuilding and creating a stronger economic foundation for the countries of Western Europe. The initiative was named for Secretary of State George Marshall and was largely the creation of State Department officials, especially William L. Clayton and George F. Kennan. George Marshall spoke of the administration's desire to help European recovery in his address at Harvard University in June 1947
* International agreements (like the Geneva Convention)
The Geneva Conventions are made up of four treaties and three additional protocols that set the standards in international law for humanitarian treatment of the victims of war. The singular term Geneva Convention refers to the agreements of 1949, negotiated in the aftermath of World War II, updating the terms of the first three treaties and adding a fourth treaty. The language is extensive, with articles defining the basic rights of those captured during a military conflict, establishing protections for the wounded, and addressing protections for civilians in and around a war zone. The treaties of 1949 have been ratified, in whole or with reservations, by 194 countries
(then why veterans of war in the streets shouldn't we give them help)

Semester DOS, Blog #14

1. What are the most interesting aspects of World Wars 1 and 2?
World War One (28July1914 – 11November1918)was before the great depression and world war to was after the great depression.
Germany was in both of the wars i think they were the ones who started them too.
I know that world war 2 had something to do with Hitler and the Holocaust and world war one Europe divide into 3 or for different groups the alliance the triple auntont some thing like that.

2. What do you hope to learn about these wars?
Why people in Europe see them as part one and part 2 of a war. I also want to learn what causes the wars and who were involve. Why is WW2 known for helping the united states get out of the depression.

3. How/Why are these wars important today? How do they impact and/or inform our world today? hint: think about alliances, democracies around the world, cultures, international institutions, nuclear (and other) technologies, etc. i think the wars divided the nations between friends and enemies. we also developed a lot of new technology.
